About, IndexNewsletter

Another Gaze #3

Another Gaze is a feminist film journal, established to highlight the gender inequality of the film industry and amplify the voices of great, often overlooked, filmmakers who identify as women. Their aim is for films by women to last longer in the public mindset, and not just for the amount of time that mainstream websites are trying to appear ‘woke’.

Another Gaze publish reviews, essays and features, both academic and journalistic, that highlight under-appreciated women filmmakers and question the existing canon. This is accompanied by the ‘In Conversation With’ project: an ongoing filmed series of portraits of women filmmakers from around the world.

Issue #3  includes essays about Barbara Hammer, Agnès Varda, Camille Billops, Jane Arden, Penny Slinger, Ana Mendieta, Hito Steyerl, Mati Diop, Catherine Breillat, Carol Morley, Ulrike Ottinger, Charlotte Prodger, Charlotte Pryce, Rosalind Nashashibi & Lucy Skaer, Gloria Camiruaga, Margarethe von Trotta, Astra Taylor, Lina Wertmüller + Interviews with Akosua Adoma Owusu, Astra Taylor, Ericka Beckman, Carolee Schneemann, Barbara Hammer + Reviews on films by Claire Denis, Angela Schanelec, Lila Avilés, Dominga Sotomayor, Lee Chang-Dong [publishers’ words]
