Lin May Saeed, Fables
Fables is published on the occasion of the exhibition dedicated to Lin May Saeed (1973–2023), presented concurrently at GAMeC in Bergamo, as part of the project Thinking Like a Mountain, and in the ninth edition of the Biennale Gherdëina, The Parliament of Marmots.
The volume collects six fables the artist wrote in the early 2000s—the only ones Saeed ever shared—which explore fundamental issues of interspecies coexistence, combining scientific, ethical, and philosophical motivations. These short stories expand Saeed’s research on the relationships between animals—both human and nonhuman—with an unusual, ironic, and paradoxical take. As Lorenzo Giusti highlights, these tales anticipate the themes of Saeed’s visual research, enriching the narrative apparatus of her artistic production, and providing essential interpretive keys for her oeuvre.
